A long time ago, in a country far across the pond, Star Wars fans could get their hands on one of the coolest playsets ever made: The Death Star Playset from Palitoy!
In 1970s Britain, Star Wars toys were distributed not by Kenner, by toymaker Palitoy. They took a very different approach to Star Wars toys, opting for cheaper toys that were more affordable in Europe. That led to the all-cardboard Death Star playset, which has become a sought-after treasure by vintage collectors around the world, not only because it was sold only in Europe, but the cardboard construction means very few have survived the nearly 40 years since its release. This “Retroblasting” video gives us our best look at it.
