On this date in 1978, the Star Wars Holiday Special aired on CBS, never to be seen again, as the embarrassing piece of 1970s kitsch was widely panned by fans and critics alike. Nostalgia can cover many shortcomings, however, and the special lives on in bootleg DVD copies and online.
