StarWars.com released a shocking statement yesterday, which has the “Star Wars” community in a panic. Apparently, naysayers learned nothing from all the unnecessary hub-bub caused by re-shoots and director changes on “Rogue One.” Read the statement after the jump and find out who Lucasfilm is looking at to replace Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
“The untitled Han Solo film will move forward with a directorial change.
‘Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are talented filmmakers who have assembled an incredible cast and crew, but it’s become clear that we had different creative visions on this film, and we’ve decided to part ways. A new director will be announced soon,’ said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm.
‘Unfortunately, our vision and process weren’t aligned with our partners on this project. We normally aren’t fans of the phrase ‘creative differences’ but for once this cliché is true. We are really proud of the amazing and world-class work of our cast and crew,’ stated Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
The untitled Han Solo film remains scheduled for a May 2018 release.
Directors in the running to replace Lord and Miller include Ron Howard (“Willow,” “Cocoon,” “Apollo 13”), Lawrence Kasdan (“The Big Chill,” “Silverado”), and Joe Johnston (“Captain America: The First Avenger, “Jumanji”). Howard is an interesting choice out of left field that I would be interested in seeing tackle a “Star Wars” movie. Kasdan is the obvious choice, as he’s the co-writer of “The Empire Strikes Back,” “The Force Awakens,” and the Han Solo movie. He has a very long and rich history working with the character. Johnston has worked on “Star Wars” as a concept artist and provided the final designs for characters Yoda and Boba Fett, as well as ships and vehicles like the Millennium Falcon, X-Wings, Y-wings, Imperial Star Destroyer, the Death Star, and AT-ATs.
