There’s a pretty interesting rumor being floated by Making Star Wars. They claim John Williams and Michael Giacchino are collaborating on scoring music to be played at Disney’s new Star Wars theme park land, Galaxy’s Edge.
If this is true, it would be an incredible team-up and a coup for the upcoming expansion of Disney Parks.
Here’s part of their report on the rumor.
My sources are saying John Williams and Michael Giacchino will be writing and scoring the theme park’s music for rides, attractions, and other types of source music. It sounds like there is some sort of collaborative effort between Williams and Giacchino on the content. I don’t know if Williams is just contributing a theme or a lot more than that. It isn’t exactly clear who is doing what at this point so I do not want to overstate anything other than we are getting new music for Galaxy’s Edge from both Williams and Giacchino who will be bringing the melodic side of the park to life.
Williams’ work on the theme park could be his last hurrah for Star Wars, as he has hinted at retiring. It’s not clear if it would be after work on the park is done (it opens in 2019) or after Episode IX is completed.
Giacchino joined the Star Wars universe by scoring Rogue One, which was a fairly good score, considering he did it in just a couple of weeks to replace Alexandre Desplat. He’s done some great work on The Incredibles, as well as J.J. Abrams’ shows “LOST” and “Alias.”
If this is true, we’ll likely see an official announcement before the end of the year.
