Gina Carano Episode of ‘Running Wild’ Will Air After All, Despite Disney’s Attempt to Cancel It

An episode of “Running Wild with Bear Grylls” featuring “Mandalorian” star Gina Carano will air on the NatGeo network next month, weeks after Disney removed it from its broadcast schedule.

The popular show, which features survivalist Grylls and a celebrity guest, featured Carano as the pair visited the Dolomites mountain range in Italy. Disney had previously announced that the Carano episode would be included in the show’s sixth season, which airs on the NatGeo network and the Disney+ streaming service.

That all changed in February when Disney fired Carano from the live-action Star Wars series over her political beliefs. Carano had been the focus of an online hate campaign for some time, led by Twitter activists upset with her conservative and libertarian views. After she posted a meme likening today’s hateful political polarization to tactics used in Nazi Germany, an online outrage mob convinced Disney to cut ties.

Not only did Disney fire Carano from future seasons of “The Mandalorian,” the company blocked action figures of her character from being made. Disney also operates the NatGeo network in a partnership with National Geographic, and after the controversy erupted, they removed her episode from the “Running Wild” show schedule.

In an announcement posted to social media on Sunday, Carano stated that her appearance on “Running Wild” will air on NatGeo after all. “Want to hear something cool,” she posted in a tweet. “Just so happens you WILL be able to see my @beargrylls episode on @natgeo after all!! Bear is a real one. I’m so glad you’re going to get to see it. My heart is so full. Airs on @natgeo May 10th at 9pm! #nevergiveup.”

Soon after, Bear Grylls responded to Carano’s tweet with his own words of support.

The Gina Carano episode of “Running Wild with Bear Grylls” will air on May 10.
