Funko’s Star Wars mystery box, an Amazon exclusive, is ending this year. The Smuggler’s Bounty subscription box program’s cancellation was announced in an email from Funko.
In the email, Funko stated “All good things must come to an end, including the Star Wars Smuggler’s Bounty subscription box…Thank you for joining us on this epic adventure celebrating the most stellar fandom of them all.”
Only two more boxes will be released, with the next coming in October.
The Smuggler’s Bounty box, which is available through Amazon, appears to be the latest casualty of slumping sales of Star Wars merchandise. A search on the Amazon website found that many of the Smuggler’s Bounty boxes from the past year were still available for purchase, meaning there were a number of unsold boxes months after their release.
The cancellation appears to only apply to Star Wars Smuggler’s Bounty subscription boxes. Amazon’s other Funko subscription box, the Marvel Collector Corps, is continuing.
We haven’t seen the end of Funko Star Wars exclusives at Amazon, however. “Keep an eye out for more exciting Star Wars products coming soon from Funko and Amazon,” the email stated.
That includes the upcoming Millennium Falcon “Pop Ride,” releasing only at Amazon in October. It can be ordered by clicking right here.
