Fans of the Star Wars video games “Dark Forces” and “Episode I Racer” can now relive the greatness of those 90s classics – in high definition.
A modder named “Rob Jin” has recreated the Mos Espa track level of “Racer” using Unreal Engine, the software environment used to create games like “Batman: Arkham City,” “Fortnite: Save the World,” and “Kingdom Hearts III.” He even included Anakin’s podracer.
Originally released in 1999 on Dreamcast, Nintendo 64, and in arcades, “Episode I Racer” quickly became a fan favorite. Rob Jin’s remake keeps the gameplay and sound effects, but offers a serious upgrade in graphics.

A remake of “Dark Forces” was just revealed this past week by Jason Lewis, a developer with Obsidian Entertainment. He used Unreal Engine 4 to recreate some of the key environments, and even released a playable demo. It can be downloaded by clicking here.
The original “Dark Forces” was released on PC and Mac in 1995, and on PlayStation One in 1996, and was a smash hit, selling nearly a million copies. Using the “Doom” first person shooter format, the game expanded the genre by introducing familiar Star Wars characters and environments.
