Ewan McGregor is going to the dark side, at least in the DC Cinematic Universe.
The Golden Globe-winning actor has joined the movie adaptation of DC’s Birds of Prey as mob boss Black Mask, who will serve as the film’s main villain.
In the comic books, Black Mask is the alter ego of Roman Sionis, a Gotham businessman whose family business failed because of his bad decisions. He blamed Bruce Wayne and his company for his failure in business, however, and as Black Mask, he formed the False Face Society to commit crime. Black Mask became one of Batman’s more notorious enemies.
McGregor joins a cast that already includes his former girlfriend Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who is playing Huntress. Jurnee Smollett-Bell is playing Black Canary, Rosie Perez is playing Renee Montoya, and Margot Robbie leads the cast, reprising her role of Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad.
Birds of Prey opens on Feb. 7, 2020, will reportedly be rated R, and follows the team-up of Batgirl, Harley Quinn, Huntress, and Black Canary as they fight evil in Gotham, as only they can.
