James Bond himself, Daniel Craig, will appear in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” as a Stormtrooper, and we have Star Trek’s Scotty to thank for spilling the beans.
Simon Pegg, the British actor who brought Scotty to life in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek” reboot, is an avid “Star Wars” fan, so when Abrams signed on to direct Episode VII, he cast Pegg in an unannounced role, although it is expected to be a cameo. In an interview with Britain’s The Sun newspaper while promoting his new film “Man Up,” Pegg mentioned his involvement with the new “Star Wars.” In dispelling a rumor over what role he was playing, he accidentally spilled the beans on Daniel Craig’s role in the film. ” I wasn’t a Stormtrooper,” he said. “Daniel Craig, he was a Stormtrooper.”
Pegg quickly caught himself, and then said “I shouldn’t have said that.”
Craig’s role in “Star Wars” had been rumored as far back as last year, but this is the first confirmation, even though it was unintentional. Because he is playing a Stormtrooper, it is believed most viewers will not know when Craig is even on the screen, and is likely just an inside joke for Craig and the film’s crew. Craig is currently filming the new James Bond feature, “Spectre,” It opens on November 6 of this year, just weeks before December 19 release date of “The Force Awakens.”.
