Arcade1Up, the company that makes video arcade cabinets for home use, is giving us a slice of 1980s greatness, as they will release the classic Atari Star Wars in an arcade cabinet this fall.
At E3 this week, Arcade1Up revealed their upcoming products for the fall, which included a “Marvel Heroes” game and a “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” game. The highlight announcement, however, was a four-foot high version of Atari’s vector-based “Star Wars” game that was a mainstay in video arcades in the 1980s. The cabinet will also include the follow-up games Atari released to complete the trilogy: The Empire Strikes Back,” and “Return of the Jedi.”
Representatives from Arcade1Up reportedly told E3 attendees that the game will sell for “under $500 retail” and will be available in November. The cabinet will feature a backlit marquee, a recessed screen, stereo speakers underneath the marquee, and a “Flight Yoke” controller just like the one on the original arcade game.
