Back in 1980, theaters in Europe played a short film, Black Angel, before showings of The Empire Strikes Back. Written and directed by Roger Christian, the film was commissioned by George Lucas as a “thank you” for his Oscar-winning art direction on Star Wars. The original print was lost in a fire, and the film remained lost and unseen for nearly 30 years. However, a negative of the film was recently found and restored, and recently posted to YouTube. It’s here for you to enjoy, along with an introduction by Christian, who discusses the film’s influence on Empire, as well as the film Excalibur. You can find out more about Black Angel at the film’s official site, right here.
