If you think merchandising for Star Wars is comprehensive today, back in 1983, with the release of Return of the Jedi, it seemed everything had Star Wars splashed on it. That includes Pepperidge Farm cookies, who produced a line of Star Wars cookies in 1983 featuring 15 different characters. You can check out a vintage commercial here:
Three flavors of cookies were offered: vanilla, chocolate, and peanut butter. I had some of those cookies back in the day, and I can tell you first hand, they weren’t all that good. We kept buying them, however, because we wanted to have cookies shaped like our favorite Star Wars characters. In addition, some boxes included a mail-away offer for Star Wars tumblers, so buying multiple boxes to get the proofs of purchase was a necessity.
