Knott’s Scary Farm is one of the most popular Halloween attractions in California, giving thousands of attendees something to scream about. One of the “haunted” walkthroughs this year is a science fiction-based maze called Dark Entities. Maze designer Timothy “Gus” Krueger couldn’t be more vocal about how a Galaxy Far, Far Away influenced his work.
“Being a kid in the heyday of ‘Star Wars’ in the ‘70s and ‘80s gave me a great love for the genre. I really want to explore the darker aspects of sci-fi horror, like you would see in ‘Alien’ or ‘Event Horizon,’ and bring that to Scary Farm in a way that uses cool new technologies that we didn’t have access to before… There are also a lot of Easter eggs and homages to the myriad of inspirations I drew from in creating the maze,” Krueger told The Orange County Register.
The description of Dark Entities sounds like it borrows more from Alien than Star Wars. However, let’s be honest. Alien wouldn’t have been possible without the success of Star Wars and the revitalization of the sci-fi genre it boosted.
