37 Years Ago Today: The Star Wars Holiday Special!

It’s time to once again revisit the greatest Christmas special not starring stop-action felt reindeer! On November 17, 1978, a trainwreck of galactic proportions unfolded on CBS, as the original cast of Star Wars (and a few new characters) brought us the tale of Life Day on Chewbacca’s home planet.
The Star Wars Holiday Special is remembered fondly by fans for introducing Boba Fett to the Star Wars universe in a fantastic animated short, but it is also hated by fans for introducing Bea Arthur to the Star Wars universe. We’ve included YouTube videos of the best (and worst) of the Holiday Special below, which condenses 90 minutes down to about 15 minutes, as well as the Boba Fett cartoon.
In case you’re wondering how the Holiday Special could be so off-the-rails strange, it’s worth noting that Bruce Vilanch was one of the writers. If you don’t know who that is, Google him. That should explain everything. Anyway, enjoy (if you can) portions of the Holiday Special:
