18 Years Ago This Week: The First Star Wars Celebration!

It seems like only yesterday that Star Wars Celebration was a newborn convention. Now, it’s old enough to vote. The official Star Wars convention has come a long way.

In 1999, the Star Wars Celebration was held to promote the upcoming Phantom Menace, and thousands showed up to attend. The event certainly had its growing pains. It was held at an airplane hangar, and many outside events had to deal with uncharacteristic heavy rains. Many fans were left unhappy, but even so, Celebration continued to grow. It is now one of the more popular conventions in all of fandom.

Here’s a little nostalgia for you: the original poster to promote the event. Enjoy!

The next Celebration will be held in 2019.
