90’s kids, rejoice! A blast from your past is back, with a Star Wars twist!
Tamagotchi, the interactive “virtual pet” gadget, will soon release its first-ever Star Wars device this November. It should be no surprise that the first Tamagotchi is designed to look like R2-D2.
The R2-D2 Tamagotchi will come in both white and holographic blue, and will be released on November 11.

Virtual pets soared in popularity in the late-90’s, as kids learned to train, clean, and take care of their “pets” on the small devices.
“Star Wars has proven to be a timeless franchise and one that fans are eager to continue exploring, which makes it an absolute thrill to be able to incorporate it into the Tamagotchi experience,” Takayoshi Oyama, manager of the Business Management Team at Bandai, told StarWars.com. “The R2-D2 Tamagotchi is an epic collaboration to be a part of and we can’t wait to see how fans of the franchise react to this out-of-this-world device!”
Users will have to train R2 to master 19 different skills, and keep him charged and clean. Two mini-games, firefighting and Dejarik (a.k.a. holochess) are included, with seven more mini-games available to be unlocked. Of course, in true Tamagotchi fashion, users will have to keep R2-D2 happy.
