That Luke Skywalker cameo in “The Mandalorian” season two finale was great, but a new deepfake video has made the scene even better!
The cameo featured Luke’s return using CGI effects over actor Mark Hamill’s face. The effect was good, but many felt it looked too artificial, like a video game.
Deepfake technology uses an actual photo that has been mapped onto a face, and it often provides a more realistic effect than CGI imagery. YouTuber Shamook has posted some great deepfake videos, and his work is impressive.
We featured Shamook’s work recently, when he added Harrison Ford’s face to a scene from Solo: A Star Wars Story (click here to check it out).
Now, Shamook has put his talents to improving the Luke cameo, and we think it looks even better than ILM’s work in the show.
Here’s the video, so you can judge for yourself.
