Could we see Jyn Erso return to the Star Wars universe? Don’t laugh – Felicity Jones isn’t ruling it out.
In a new interview, actress Felicity Jones explored the idea that she could once again portray Rogue One character Jyn Erso.
The interview, with the Hollywood Reporter, was about her role in her new film The Midnight Sky, directed by George Clooney. However, when asked about Rogue One, and whether she would ever return to the role of Jyn Erso, Jones seemed open to the idea.
Jones’ willingness to play Jyn Erso again likely surprised many Star Wars fans, given the fact that the character seemed to die in a Death Star laser blast at the end of the film. Besides voicing Jyn Erso in a handful of Star Wars animated shorts, it seemed unlikely that she would reprise the character.
Still, when Hollywood Reporter writer Tatiana Siegel asked Jones about it, she kept the door open. Siegel mentioned that Disney had reportedly extended an option for Jones to reprise the character, and then suggested that Erso’s fate was “unclear” at the end of Rogue One (although we would disagree).
While Jones didn’t confirm that Disney has renewed her option, she said while laughing “I just keep saying that reincarnation is totally possible in the Star Wars universe….so, I feel there’s unfinished business for Jyn, for sure.
“I think it would be fascinating to see her getting older and wiser and fighting the dark forces in the universe, of which there are many it seems.”
With Diego Luna reprising his Rogue One role or the upcoming “Cassian Andor” series on Disney+, it’s possible – although highly unlikely – that she could appear.
Jones also shot down rumors about being paid less than other actors in Rogue One. “In that case, I was fairly paid for what I was doing and was fairly championed. And that’s also a testament to the people that I work with who had fought on my behalf as well. And I was very lucky that it wasn’t an issue.”
